Meet Laurie May, Director of Children’s Ministries

Laurie May has been Director of Children’s Ministries at Central Presbyterian Church for over 10 years and a member of the church for even longer. A native Miamian, she received her B.A. with certification in early childhood and elementary education from Stetson University. Laurie returned to Miami to teach elementary school for 11 years. During this time she developed devotional curriculum for the school, put together school budgets, served on school SACS and CAPE committees, participated on a SACS evaluation team, coordinated a Youth Club program, served as Sunday school preschool superintendent, helped with Living Nativities, acted as a church youth advisor, served on the C.E. committee, and taught Bethel & Kerygma to adults.

Laurie was then “promoted” to full-time mother, and later accepted the position at CPC. As Director of Children’s Ministries she has started a Cradle Roll program, incorporated the Workshop Rotation Method, further developed children’s education and fellowship programs, and initiated special events such as family campouts, Camp-Ins, Christmas worship service led by children, parent workshops, Jerusalem Marketplace, A Night in Bethlehem Village, and HeartSpa women’s retreat.

Laurie and her husband enjoy participating in Scouting, PTSA, and as active volunteers in their children’s schools and the community. The family likes traveling and has been as far south as Honduras and as far north as Barrow, Alaska.
